Best VPN protocols in 2026 for a fast VPN: VitaminVPN, VLESS Reality, WireGuard and more

Before you buy a VPN: why deep packet inspection blocks ordinary VPNs, how our own VitaminVPN protocol stays connected, and when to use Xray, WireGuard, OpenVPN, Cisco, IKEv2 or MTProto instead.

On an open network almost any VPN protocol connects, and the only question is speed. On a filtered network the protocol decides whether you connect at all, which makes it the first thing to check before you buy a VPN. This guide explains why, walks through every protocol VitaminDATA offers, and shows where our own protocol, VitaminVPN, fits in.

Why ordinary VPNs get blocked: deep packet inspection

Modern filtering does not just block addresses. Deep packet inspection (DPI) watches the shape of traffic: how a connection starts, how big its packets are, how they are timed. Every well-known VPN protocol has a recognisable fingerprint, and once a filter learns it, every server using that protocol stops working at once — no matter how many new servers appear.

That is the problem VitaminVPN was built to solve.

VitaminVPN: our own protocol, built for networks that fight back

VitaminVPN is not a rebranded copy of an existing VPN. We designed the protocol ourselves and built it from scratch, so it does not carry the public fingerprint of the protocols filters already know. You will not find it anywhere else.

  • Built to slip past deep packet inspection. VitaminVPN is made to stay connected on networks where DPI shuts ordinary VPNs down. We keep the internals private on purpose — what a filter cannot study, it cannot learn to block.
  • Several ways to connect, chosen for you. The app carries more than one connection mode and picks the one that works on your network right now. If the network changes, it adapts; you can also choose a mode yourself.
  • Fast and light. The connection engine is written in Rust, so it runs at native speed with a small memory and battery footprint.
  • One account, simple setup. Sign in to the app with your VPN username and VPN password, pick a server and connect.
  • On every plan, the free plan included. It is the protocol we recommend first.

The VitaminVPN app is available for Android and Windows, in your language.

Built with Rust and Go

We chose two of the most respected modern languages for the two halves of the service.

Rust powers the VitaminVPN engine — the same core runs in the Android app, the Windows app and our servers. Rust gives the speed of C with strict memory safety checked before the program ever runs, which rules out whole classes of crashes and security bugs. For software that touches every packet you send, that matters.

We also use Go.

Every protocol we offer, and when to use it

VitaminVPN is our first choice, but every device and network is different, so your panel gives you a ready configuration for each protocol your plan includes:

Protocol Best for How you connect
VitaminVPN Filtered networks, everyday use The VitaminVPN app (Android, Windows)
Xray — VLESS, VMess, Reality Strong filtering, iPhone and Mac One subscription link in V2Box, Streisand, v2rayNG or Shadowrocket
WireGuard / AmneziaWG Speed on open networks; AmneziaWG adds disguise The WireGuard or AmneziaVPN app, from a file or QR code
OpenVPN Routers, MikroTik, older devices OpenVPN Connect or your router
Cisco AnyConnect (OpenConnect) Work-style clients and managed devices Cisco Secure Client or OpenConnect
IKEv2, L2TP/IPsec, SSTP, PPTP No app at all The VPN settings built into your phone, computer or router
MTProto Telegram only One tap in Telegram

Which protocol should you choose for a fast VPN?

  • Android or Windows: start with VitaminVPN.
  • iPhone or Mac: use Xray (Reality) through the subscription link, or WireGuard on an open network.
  • A router or MikroTik: OpenVPN or L2TP/IPsec.
  • Just Telegram: MTProto.
  • On a fast, unfiltered network: WireGuard is hard to beat.

The website and panel behind it

Every protocol lives in one place: our new website and customer panel.

  • Eight languages, with proper right-to-left layouts for Persian, Arabic and South Azerbaijani.
  • Every configuration as a QR code, an import link or a file, plus one subscription link for Xray apps.
  • A separate VPN password, so the credentials on your devices are never your account password.
  • Live server status with ping times, a Telegram bot for your configs and support, and two-factor sign-in.
  • Plans from free to ELITE, paid by bank card, crypto or balance.

Frequently asked questions

Is VitaminVPN free?
Yes — it is included in every plan, including the free plan: verify your e-mail and get 15 GB for one month. See the free VPN page.

Is there a VitaminVPN app for iPhone or Mac?
The VitaminVPN app is for Android and Windows. On an iPhone or a Mac, use the Xray subscription link, WireGuard, OpenVPN, Cisco or the built-in IKEv2 — all of them are in your panel.

Which protocol is the fastest?
On an open network, WireGuard. On a filtered network the fastest protocol is the one that stays connected, which is what VitaminVPN is built for.

Which username and password do VPN apps use?
Your VPN username and VPN password, from the VPN password card under My VPNs — not your website password.

Which plan includes which protocol?
VitaminVPN and MTProto are on every plan; higher plans add the rest. The VPN plans page shows them side by side.
